Like the southern region, the northern
region of Vietnam has many species of pomelos. One of its most famous
is the Phuc Trach pomelo from Ha Tinh Province.
Nguyen Du (aliases and pseudonyms To
Nhu, Thanh Hien, Hong Son and Hiep Lo) was born in 1765 into a family
of scholars and illustrious mandarins. His father was Nguyen Nghiem,
native of Tien Dien village, Nghi Xuan district. His mother was Tran
Thi Tan, native of Hoa Thieu village, Dong Ngan district, now Tien Son
district, Ha Tinh province. Having successfully passed the provincial
examinations at the age of nineteen, he served as military mandarin
under Le Canh Hung.
Cua Ong temple is located in the Cua
Ong quarter of Cam Pha, 50km from the centre of Halong city. It offers
a magnificent view of Bai Tu Long bay.
Long Tien pagoda, the biggest in Halong
was built at the end of the Nguyen dynasty (1941). It consists of six
rooms, two stories and eight roofs.
