Hanoi
will host the 7th annual conference of the Council for Promotion of
Tourism in Asia (CPTA) which is scheduled to last from October 5-10. The
conference, part of the Asian Network of Major Cities 21 (ANMC 21), is
held in rotation in member cities of Hanoi, Bangkok, New Delhi, Taipei,
Seoul, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo.

The September 2 holiday is nearing, but travel firms have not seen large numbers of clients booking tours. Despite skyrocketing
prices, travel firms dare not raise tour fees, while they are launching
a lot of promotion programmes in order to stimulate demand. However, it
seems that the promotion programmes are not helping them much.

The
Viet Nam Tourism Association (VITA) has embarked on a new phase in
hospitality management with the adoption of Comanche International’s
software package as the sole monitoring system for all aspects of the
hospitality sector in the country. VITA signed a MoU to
this effect with the Thai software company on August 20 in the World
Heritage city of Hoi An. The signing ceremony was hosted by Life Resort
Hoi An, which is one of Comanche’s 450 clients worldwide.

HCMC-based Ben Thanh Tourist has
collaborated with Saigon Passenger Transportation Company (Sapaco
Tourist) to launch a road travel tour from HCMC to Cambodia and
Thailand. Cao Ngoc Minh, public relations executive,
said that the first trip of the new tour would be on Saturday next
week. From then, the tour will run every Thursday. "We aim to attract
more individual tourists to join the tour," she said.

suitcases during the year-end tourist season, despite difficult
economic times, according to industry insiders. Tour companies reported that the number of tourists booked for foreign tours has increased significantly.
